About Us
MarshallTalk was originally created in 2004 as an Internet Radio Talk Show in a dedicated Studio. Marshall hosted the MarshallTalk Show with 2 Guest Host. They would do a show everyday in the morning, and the show would be replayed for 24 hours on "MarshallTalk Radio". The show started out pretty slow, because Internet Radio in 2004 was not very popular, and it was extremely expensive to run a dedicated Studio. Over a short period of time the show became more popular, and MarshallTalk picked up some sponsors which turned out to be both positive and negative at the same time. MarshallTalk needed Sponsors to help keep the show online and hoped it would eventually allow the Internet Radio Station to include more shows to run in open time, instead of just replaying the MarshallTalk Show over and over for the 22 Hours it was not live.
The MarshallTalk Show began to take off in early 2005 as the fanbase grew, and they learned about Marshall's direct but very honest style of dealing with issues. At first everyone thought this is GREAT, the listeners really like that Marshall was extremely direct and honest Also the Show started to get more callers, and it looked like it would only be a matter of time for the Show to gain a full slate of Sponsors, and the Internet Radio Station would be able to expand. Saying that assumption was wrong is a massive understatement. The Show did not gain more Sponsors, the Show lost them, many Sponsors did not want to be associated with a show hosted by a person like Marshall that told it like it was covering controversial issues. Soon the Internet Radio Station realized the dream Marshall had was not going to work the way he planned it. Eventually MarshallTalk lost every Sponsor with no future prospects. The Internet Radio Station tried to cut cost, by reducing the staff, and Marshall hosting the show by himself, but that did not do anything to increase revenue, so the Internet Radio Station was shutdown.
After years of trying to figure out how in the world he could speak in his real voice and be able to finance the MarshallTalk Show & Blog he created the New & Improved MarshallTalk.com which is an Internet Blog + Internet Talk Show + Daily Deals website. Basically with Marshall's experience in the Discount Retail & Fundraising industries, he came up with the idea of combining the Blog, Talk Show and Discount Products into one venue. Marshall figured if his company sold the products that financed the Blog and Talk Show with a small compliment of Banner Ads, then he would not have to worry about losing his voice. He hopes people that want to hear what he has to say will consider buying products that are a great deal which they may be willing to purchase anyway, and people that do not want to hear what he has to say may or may not purchase depending on the deals. This way he can stay true to his vision, and hopefully be able to address and maybe even help solve some of the major problems we deal with in our society without ever considering selling out to a Sponsor that would want to control his voice.
About Marshall Creator of MarshallTalk.com & Host of the MarshallTalk Show
Over my 40 something years I have come to realize I think very different from most people. It started to become clear to me at a very early age, because many older people would listen to me and ask my opinion on a variety of topics. Even in my early teens, I would think what is the reason someone would do or make certain decisions/comments and would try to figure out what would be the reason, whether I agreed with it or not. So you could probably imagine I was a pretty serious kid, even though I had a pretty good sense of humor with my close friends. Which is why I have always been a person that my family and friends would be comfortable to come to when they needed an honest opinion or advice. They would confide in me because I am very honest and direct, so they knew I would give them the best opinion or advice I could. I would also make it very clear to Family and Friends that if I am asked a question, please understand I will give you an answer based on what I really think without sugar on top. I have always said "if you don't want my honest answer to your question, DON'T ask!" So I have been able to help, comfort, and solve many problems for other people that are or were close to me. However, I also noticed that I didn't have the the same luck for my own issues, because many people can not understand what makes a person like me tick, so I would find myself talking over people I would try to confide in. Eventually I realized, it was NOT worth even talking about my issues, if my Wife could not help me, then I would just have to deal with whatever it was by myself. To be honest this has caused me lots of stress, which is also the reason I needed to get MarshallTalk back off the ground, it gives me a place to vent in a non-personal venue.
I feel like my biggest asset and problem in most cases is I talk from the Center. I believe there is ALWAYS 2 sides to an issue/problem. Again, I think there is ALWAYS 2 sides to an issue/problem; however, there is NOT 2 sides to the FACTS. The hard part is how do you find what the FACTS are and help the person see the FACTS for themselves if the FACTS are actually able to be found. So when I talk to someone about their problems/issues, it is usually relatively easy for me to help them because I actually put myself in the shoes of all the parties involved. I really believe most of the problems we have are based on Selfishness and the lack of ability or desire to understand where others are coming from on an issue. Most of us have been taught to think exclusively about ourselves, and what is best for ME, MYSELF and I! It is almost impossible to solve problems with a ME, MYSELF and I outlook, especially due to the fact that most solutions are somewhere in the middle which usually requires a person to at least consider the other side of the issue.
So when I think about an issue on a larger scale, like National Issues, I would initially find myself not getting the same response as I would get on personal issues. If I was allowed to fully explain the point I was trying to make after listening to others points of view, I would usually or at least eventually get an extremely positive response to whomever I was talking to. They would usually state something like "I never thought of it from that point of view." Also many people would tell me, maybe you should get into Politics! Which to be honest, I really never considered Politics because as I stated previously I am very HONEST, and I don't think the American Public is very receptive to HONEST people in Politics, and I am NOT willing to sell my soul. I do believe that is changing, but we have a long ways to go. Eventually I figured, if I am NOT going to get into Politics, how could I help more people and bring some light to Important issues that not only deal with the problem, but actually deal with creating a Solution.
I eventually decided I would create a FREE Call-In Internet Radio Show called MarshallTalk hosted by myself with a couple Guest Host. It became pretty popular very quickly. Later I decided to add an Internet Blog, so that more people could participate if they were unable to get in during the Broadcast. After broadcasting for about 3 or 4 months, I found it to be too expensive to keep the Radio Show Online, especially due to the fact I could not keep any sponsors. Eventually I just could not afford to keep it Online at all, because I was unable to secure more Sponsors, while sticking to what I felt was being honest to myself and my listening. NOW, I am BACK after several Year Hiatus, with my thoughts on a range of important issues including those that are controversial. I am not really shy about any major issue; however, I do understand some issues are much harder to obtain consensus on. We all have to take our Life into account, and learn from our experiences; however, we also need to learn our experiences are not representative to everyone else's experiences.
So I ask that when you read what I write in this Blog or listen to what I say on my Talk Show, you keep in mind I am trying to see it from a non-bias perspective; however, I do realize that many people are not even open to trying to understand anyone's perspective besides their own without any deep thought. Of course, usually this is a result of some personal issue. Here are some Examples: Can a Politician tell you exactly what they actually think about every issue? Does every person that claims they are Religious, truly believe in it, or do some of them use it for their personal agenda? Is every person that say they are not sexist or racist, actually being honest? These are just a few examples of what I mean. Many times what people say is totally based on how they think it will help them.
